Sky Visuals is setting new standards in the local aerial cinematography scene

Sky Visuals, based in Malta, is at the forefront of the drone video production scene, spearheading innovation in local cinematography. Initially gaining recognition for their captivating ski and travel videos showcasing stunning destinations like the Dolomites in Italy, the Portuguese island of Madeira, and Hawaii, Sky Visuals has since specialized in capturing high-speed footage across various action sports genres. From powerboat racing and Moto-Cross to sailing, skiing, and sports car racing, their portfolio spans a thrilling range of experiences.

In a momentous highlight for the team, June 2023 saw Sky Visuals embark on an exhilarating journey to film the UIM (Union Internationale Motonautique) V2 and 3D Powerboat World Championships in Rodi Garganico, Italy. Their drones soared at speeds exceeding 130 km/h, shadowing the racing boats in action-packed sequences that featured close-ups and captivating slow-motion shots.

Filming excellence
Sky Visuals, more than just drone footage

Sky Visuals boasts a fleet of versatile drones capable of capturing both high-speed action and cinematic slow-motion sequences. This versatility positions them as the go-to service provider for advertising agencies, TV producers, motor and action sports organizations, as well as real estate agencies seeking to elevate their property marketing with visually striking indoor and outdoor shots. However, the magic of a captivating video doesn’t end with aerial shots alone. Skilful editing, along with the inclusion of appropriate music and sound effects, is integral to captivating the viewer’s emotions and generating excitement. Sky Visuals invests significant effort in meticulous research to curate the perfect auditory backdrop for their edits, ensuring an immersive and engaging viewing experience.

Equipment choice
The right drone for the right job

In the realm of drone technology, these remarkable flying machines are often referred to as quadcopters, typically equipped with four rotors that facilitate manoeuvrability. Various configurations are available to cater to specific cinematic requirements. For capturing steady, slow-motion footage, quadcopters with built-in stabilization systems excel. They can hover effortlessly, maintain level flight, and execute straight-line flights in multiple directions, all thanks to automated altitude control. Sky Visuals operates a range of models differing in size, camera quality, and features to meet diverse needs.

For high-speed, adrenaline-pumping shots and acrobatic manoeuvres, our pilots turn to FPV (First Person View) drones, which have their roots in the thrilling sport of drone racing. Our FPV pilots wear virtual reality headsets that provide a first-person perspective, as if they were in the cockpit themselves. These drones lack built-in stabilization and demand constant pilot input for control. Consequently, mastering FPV quadcopters requires a much steeper learning curve compared to their stabilized counterparts, but ultimately permit the most extreme shots when piloted competently.  Hollywood productions, drawn to their extreme agility and speed, are increasingly turning to FPV drones for their dynamic cinematic requirements.

EU drone regulations
We meet Eurpopean Drone Regulations

In light of the rapid development of the drone industry, the European Union has introduced new drone regulations aimed at ensuring the safety of citizens, private property, and manned aircraft. Now, drone pilots are required to hold certifications and insurance to operate drones weighing over 250 grams legally. In Malta, the authority responsible for drone regulation is Transport Malta, offering pilot certifications based on factors such as aircraft weight and proximity to uninvolved individuals and structures.

Sky Visual’s pilots are EU certified in the A1/A3and A2 open categories, enabling them to legally operate drones up to 25kg in weight.
